[HUG ] Re: Biogons and digital backs

From the horses mouth the R10 will be available much sooner.
Mr Kaufmann owner of Leica is no fool who invests his money
now to withdraw his investment in 1-2 years.
Besides that current losses can be used as a ground for tax
compensation.
I am sure a succesful business man of this magnitude does not
need any help from me.
He has a long breath that will allow him to accept a return of
investment much longer than any bank financing would permit.

One way to change the present results that are written in red
is to diversify the range of products.
The S2 is a good way to start with that.
The R10 will convince users of older lenses not to buy Canon,
Nikon and use these lenses with adapters but go for the R10.
The R10 will offer AF with current MF lenses.

Small correction. they are owned by a single individual that is funding their
( negative financial) operations. If he pulls out of the funding, they will go
under quickly. They are losing money like crazy.

Certainly the S2 is interesting ( and pretty spectacular), but priced for
someone else, not me. In fact not for most folk I know. Same for the H
series...

Yes, Hasselblad should be very concerned. If this thing actually can
perform ( as opposed to problem driven cameras) , it will be a real competitor
for the Hasselblad V Series with digital backs and the H series. And as you
say, Leica is no slouch in designing optics.

The R10 is what will put money into their hands. It will support an existing
lens lineup, people that are putting their Leica R lenses on Canon bodies with
an adapter. It will sell like hotcakes.

But they must last long enough to actually bring these products to market...
and fast enough to not get caught up in more competition...

Current estimates and rumors are that the S2 will be production available in
a year, and the R10 in 2 years.

Their financial position allows them to bring out new models

as if R&D are available at 90% discount not to mention the cost

  to finance production.

Besides the S2 they are working also on the R10.

That camera will be released shortly after the S2.
