Without somebody knowledgeable inspecting them this is almost impossible to
say. E.g. this week I got a newly acquired A12 of the latest model (with
slide holder) back from repair. It looked quite mint, still it needed a
gear replaced. According to the repair technician it was otherwise just
fine inside, his guess what that a little lever that interlocks with the
gear had left the factory without properly having been 'rounded'. Some
sharp edge had worn out the gear, making spacing very erratic.
