[hashcash] Re: Hashcash for Blogs

Actually guys - are there any recorded metrics for stamp minting on the
various hashcash implementations?

1) i'm assuming that this would have to be implemented in java/javascript.
of course, some idiot would implement it in active-Xploit. what happens
then, if a visitor does not have that application enabled? what if they're
using an ancient or "dumb" browser?

2) i run a blog that i programmed myself. maybe it's because the interface
isn't widely used, but in the years i've been running it i had ONE spammer
try to post to it. he seemed to be doing it manually... i immediately
removed the post, and they tried twice more to see how long it would stay up
before being removed. then they gave up.

3) YMMV, but i think the best way to fight automated blog spam (which i
haven't seen, first hand), would be either:
   a) slightly change the format of the popular off-the-shelf blogware that
was downloaded from sourceforge so the spammers' scripts won't be able to
use it and/or
   b) require the contents of an image to be interpreted (by a human) and
entered before any post can be submitted (not good if you have blind
visitors).
