Secondly, OSNews didn't pick it up as far as I know. You need to
spread the
word. Send an e-mail, write a business-style press release.
You are assuming that we didn't. It was certainly on the website
and the mailing list, both of which are monitored by OSNews staff;
if they wanted to post it, they certainly could have.
Long ago, I made the conscious decision not to post news items about
*announced* conferences. We get so many submissions regarding
*merely* announced conferences (LinuxCon this, BSDCon that,
WhateverCon there), and most of the time, they contain nothing more
than "WhateverCon will be held at xxxth xxx, in Whatever Town, for
whatever price. Speakers will be Whatever McWhatever, etc." No
offense, but that simply ain't news. We didn't announce Syl(lable)Con
for the same reason.
Getting to word out on conferences should be done via the proper
*community* channels. WalterCon was announced on the Haiku website,
the mailinglist, and IRC. If you, as a Haiku fan, do not monitor
either of these, you probably aren't willing to go anyway - in other
words, OSNews or Slashdot wouldn't have helped one bit here.
I'll stay out of the discussion on why I think WalterCon 'failed'
this year, since that's not my territory.
