Solaris Forte has a set of tools that are very much like this. They are tools
that I used rarely - you certainly don't want to always run your code with
them - but they were very helpful. Even when we ignored leaks and things
(special case code), it was nice to know what was there and what was not.
Very handy.
It seems like you would almost need kernel assistance to do this well. A
simple port would not do it - we have APIs (create_area, for example) that
this code knows nothing about. This would be a really good thing for R2, I
think.
