IIRC applet mean "small" application... try to compare the Clock application
with awk, or vim... not sure those are really small.
In fact there already exist a name for this:
command-line applications, or just "commands". Even M$ figured this (wow :))
and have a COMMAND folder in WINDOWS/ (they took time however, it was caled
DOS before 95 :)))

I don't remember comming across this one anywhere, but I may be wrong.
