Everyone enjoys having their egos pampered, so I might as well make you
blush ;-)
Darn well said. We've all got our reasons to be here, and I actually
believe that OpenBeOS is the way forward. It may have started as an act of
desperation, but with every passing day I'm more convinced that the path
we're taking is the correct path (and beneficial to the future of
alternative OS's). If Helmar/BeUnited/BeFaqs can licence the code and
present a path which eventually leads to an OpenBeOS, then they have my
support. I dont want to tread down a closed source path again.
Hey, the weekend is almost here. Time for some serious OpenBeOS development
;-)

ok, we've had plenty of disruption on this list with Helmar's
initiative concering Palm. so here's my take:
I don't really care what Be, Palm, or any other corporation that might
get its fingers in the BeOS pie does. Well, except that I hope that
they don't sue us. As long as they leave the OpenBeOS project alone,
I'm happy. (Of course, if they want to just hand us the source code,
well that's just dandy too -- but I wouldn't hold your breath for that
one.)
I know that others don't feel this way, and I have no problem with
that. To each his own.
It seems that, to some, OpenBeOS is like some kind of ugly last resort
(oh well, if nothing else works... I guess we're stuck with the
OpenBeOS thing). To me, it's the other way around. I want OpenBeOS to
keep forging ahead regardless of what else happens. It's a damn good
idea and well worth the effort to try. I wish like hell that this
project had been started over a year ago when the focus shift was
announced (but, admittedly, it never could have). Still, today is a
good day for a new beginnig...
As for the BeOS community being united one and all, good luck. It never
has been and never will be. It's composed of strong-minded individuals
who don't flinch at the prospect of trying something off the beaten
path. And that's a good thing. Hell, if you want unity, then let's all
use and develop for Windows exclusively and stop "splintering" the
computer community with all this alternative OS nonsense (that was
sarcasm if you didn't catch it).
Hey, don't get me wrong. I don't wish anyone ill will. I hope
everyone's dreams will all come true. Including mine... which is for
the OpenBeOS project to carry on and succeed. What Palm does or doesn't
do really makes no difference to me (other than causing legal probs
like I said before).
But I'm realistic. If Palm makes some tantalizing moves the lures
developers away from the OpenBeOS project, then I'll give up the ghost.
This project won't go anywhere unless there are enough people to
believe in this thing and work on it. We shall see what happens.... In
the mean time, let's get cracking on OpenBeOS and make this puppy go!
