I also dislike modal windows, but there are some circumstances where 
they do make sense. Imagine a "Do you want to save before closing?" 
type of box, where you want to force the user to respond. I agree that 
many modal windows are unecessary and the "wrong tool for the job" in 
many circumstances.

And anyway, it doesn't warrant further investigation for R1 - Haiku 
could hardly run R5 apps if it didn't have any support for modal 
windows.
