Well to give Palm as an example a haiku for a pda would mean
1) no floating point. this will especially affect appserver

Sure, although there are a number of ways that this can be worked around fairly easily. A fixed point Float class, for example.

2) a whole new "tracker"

Sure.

3) a file system based on smaller amounts of flash ram probably won't be BeFS

Smaller? Eh. My R5 hard drive is 8gb. There are usb drives bigger than that at my local Walmart. :-D

4) all the real fun stuff such as media kit probably won't fit or be requested

Why not? Lots of people want to watch movies on their PDA/phone.

5) and of course the kernel port to arm

Sure.

Be (and then while in Palmsource) spent a lot of money just to focus
on these issues and came up with BeIA and Cobalt. They didn't really
get far. :(

The hardware wasn't really ready, nor was the market. When the hardware is really expensive and it barely works for the users intended purpose, that is not usually a good recipe.

Compare with today - a low voltage 1ghz processor with 1gb ram, 8gb storage, 640x400 lcd, 8hours battery life would be high end, but probably not more than an iPhone. :-D

PS3 ---or PS4 would be a closer match for a real haiku platform sure
but you'd be dependent on Sony. They did give us the evilla but ummm
hmmm well it was something!
:)

PS3 would be a really interesting platform.
