Maybe cvs can be set to point to the version files directory directly rather than a network connection? Then you could use the conventiently recursive cvs commands to get the files.
AFAIK, that is possible. just set 'CVSROOT' to the directory with the
files, and the use "cvs checkout" from anywhere else. I think that
should be all. maybe some other steps are involved, i'm not really sure.
