The boot floppy is still supposed to work, and indeed works here
without any problems.
But in general, Ingo is right: the boot floppy does not give you an
idea about where we are now.
It's still there since our new boot loader does not yet support to be
booted from a floppy (or CD-ROM), and also, because this is the only
way to build a working Haiku under Linux, as we require write access to
a BFS volume to build an Haiku image.
I hope we'll be able to sort those problems out in the future - we're
aware of the fact that our build system sucks :-)
I got the boot floppy compiled and I think it hangs just after it prints
"jumping into kernel" in bochs,
as well as here on my laptop, booting from a cdrom via floppy emulation.
However, I'll try makehdimage and see where I get with that.
thx,
