I'm getting out of computing, for personal reasons. It's a tough decision, but it's what I need to do. I'm posting here since Haiku is the center of our community (IMO) and I want to say goodbye, in a sense, to the community. We've had good times as well as trying times, and I'm sure there are good times ahead with Haiku, and I hope you will enjoy them, and that the apps I always wanted to make find their way into this world by some other medium.

It's been nice knowing you all. Thanks for many good times!

I'm saddened every time I see a message like this.

Could you instead perhaps take a three-month or six-month sabbatical, followed by a renewed pursuit of your passion for BeOS and Haiku under different, "re-negotiated", and less-burdensome terms?

Surely it must be possible to preserve some sort of healthy and moderate engagement with the community and its vision, some sort of more *sustainable* alternative to the pain and suffering of a one-sided, all-consuming sort of engagement? I understand that hacking -- in the original and true sense of the term -- often becomes a complete and exclusive way of life for its practitioners, but does it always have to be so? Does it have to be an all-or-nothing proposition? I surely hope not; I don't want to see "nothing" win any victories...

For what it's worth, I've often enjoyed the clarity of your contributions to discussions on this list. Most, perhaps all, of your posts have furthered my BeOS-education in one way or another over the last couple years.

Best wishes,

Czeslaw Czapla
