Nah.. we've got Expander for this purpose.

For now it's enough to replicate BeOS R5.
We need to focus on finishing Release 1.
You probably want to move the zipfile after it's been created, and
renaming it is just as easy. Tracker is a perfectly good filemanager.
I suppose that in case of a filename conflict, or multiple files, a
BFilePanel could let you select a location and name for the zipfile.

I suspect most people using 'rar', etc, prefer to use them
in Terminal, with full control over the option switches.
Quite possibly they're also skilled enough to whip up a
shell script or application to automate their needs.
Zip is -the- BeOS format. No other format, afaik,
preserves the extended attributes of the Be filesystem.
The system defaults and the apps that come with the OS
provides the user with a blessed way. A best practice.
In the spirit of "keep it simple" which is the BeOS spirit,
it should not be made a preference. I agree that it's good
to support as many formats as possible in the base OS.
But a crowded /bin folder is not as "in your face" as, say,
Mozilla- or VideoLan -style prefences. Small utilities
like ZipOMatic shouldn't be overloaded with such.
The user shouldn't be burdened like that.
If people really want ZipOMatic to support multiple formats,
it could be added for Release 2 of OBOS, add-ons having
a preference GUI part, and an "zipper" part, the add-ons
being loadable by a separate ZipOMatic preference app.
I just think we should be aware of the danger in "pleasing everyone".
Being an open project we need to keep our focus.

I know. This will change. My first goal was to make it work.
> - real progress bar...
No one would be happier than me. :P
The current one sucks, big time, but I didn't have one I could use.
It's got to be "free" and simple. Preferably not needing another
thread.
Either driven by the ZipperThread, or by the Pulse() hook.

Thanks!
It's hard getting it all right. There are probably more bugs/flaws in
there,
but this is a community project, so that takes some weight off my
shoulders. Now I just want to clean it up and get it into cvs.
