Fellows,
may I ask what the big fuss is about? Sofar Palm has made not a single move,
which indicates any future of BeOS. Even if the same talents are working for
Palm now, which did develop the beloved BeOS, it doesn't mean, that they
still work on the desktop technologies.
BeOS didn't have a high priority in the last year of Be's existence and even
though, what should have been released as next desktop release, also known
by the codename "Dano" was far from ready. A lot of efforts have been halted
in the middle, which included revamping quite some parts of the Kits and the
architecture. Palm is not likely to invest in those developments and continue
them.
Regarding PC OEMs, btw after leaving Be I started to work for a large
european PC OEM, are not likely to change their attitude towards bundling.
There is
no commercial incentive to bundle BeOS (actually not even Linux), as the
market won't accept those machines. Therefore, even with the legal restrictions
removed, there won't be any bundles, not even if the license is free, since
the additional costs are way to high to justify the move. Especially in a
situation like the one we are facing today, with margins so small, that I didn't
even know number that small actually exist ;-) ... at least I do know now
what is meant with nano technology ...
Regards,
Marcus
