IMHO we should aim for the "Power User" group.  So, not Joe Sixpack who
doesn't know a computer from a microwave, and not the developers that live
and breath their OS.

I'd envision this group as mostly casual, probably curious, and either
experts in one thing, or near experts in many.  Examples might include web
designers, audiophiles, or the local "computer guy" who's a
Jack-of-all-Trades.  These people know what an OS is, but aren't comfortable
with repartitioning and installing an OS is still scary.  The same ones who
dislike Vista because it's so much more bloated than XP.

This is the type I think would really appreciate Haiku's no-nonsense
approach to computing.  Speed and simplicity coupled with the ability to do
their specialty should win them over.
