[openbeos] Re: Where to have a WalterCon

I wouldn't have put it quite the way that Alex did... ;-)

Still, the mail address that Tyler posted is the only one that gets
"officially" listened to - he is compiling the stats. So far, the East coast is
*WAY* in the lead - a 2 or 3 to 1 margin.

So, just for grins, I priced airfare from San Diego and Seattle to different
places on the East Coast. Out of Boston, NYC and Washington DC, for a
particular weekend, NYC was by far the cheapest. It was also the cheapest for
flights from Germany, just in case any of our friends from across the puddle
can make it.

That is not to say that the decision is a "done deal". Not by any means. But
that is the direction that it looks like things are going in.

Another couple of questions come up, in my mind. If you would be interested in
an East Coast convention, feel free to mail either Tyler
(WalterCon@xxxxxxxxxxxxx) or myself with some thoughts...

1) How long would you want to stay? I was thinking a weekend.
2) What sort of accomodations would you be looking for (hostel, hotel, ???)
3) What sort of money would you be willing to pay? Not that we want to get rich
from this, certainly, but things like a convention center, internet service,
renting tables/chairs/whatever, insurance, etc do cost money.
4) I would also like to consider the possibility of assisting some people's
transport costs if necessary/possible. People like Axel, Marcus, Ingo, etc,
without whom we would not be anywhere near where we are today, but for whom
costs might be too much.
5) Anything else that I haven't thought of - handicapped access, whatever. Is
there anyone in these cities (NYC, Boston, Philly, Washington DC, Atlanta (?))
who wants to help with some footwork? Also - speakers you would like to hear,
language translations you need, whatever.

I will keep you up to date as decisions are made. Tentatively, though, mark the
weekend of 6/27/04 for a trip to NYC - that is most probable, but not
definative.
