That may be because there are still few URL-savvy apps.

My personal reason for an extra accessible deskbar replicant,
is to switch between Net+  and NetPenguin for ftp links,
depending on the webpage with the link(s) and how I 
think I will use the ftp server. (getting a single file, 
browsing subfolders randomly, etc)

Btw, I envision a browser that offers an "Open with..." -like 
menu, with the apps capable of handling the righ-clicked link.

if someone's stupid enough to make the clash. :]
