Given the modular nature of BeOS and Haiku I feel it makes much more sense to maintain the single window file browser in a fork of the code and a separate binary than the spatial browser. Good OO design practices would mean that this needn't be exceedingly difficult, I should think - you're changing the view, but neither the model nor the controller.

For the user, switching between the two is really no different than switching between StyledEdit and PE for working on a document, although obviously the metaphore clash of having two different file managers easily available might be very big for some users, I think it is logical to make this a part of the possibilities given to Haiku users. Write a bunch of different Trackers with different behaviours, instead of trying to make The Tracker be all things to all people...
