Yes. Remember, please, that R1 is the *FIRST* step. By constraining our
target to something we can all know and agree on, we were able to get
started very quickly. But I have *no* intention of being a code maintainer
and tweaker only, and I don't think that most of us do, either. Sure, we have
to fix bugs (do we have those?) and stuff, but we also have the right and
responsibility to do other cool things, too.
And, since I am on a (micro) rant, I want to encourage those who haven't
contributed yet. If this sort of news doesn't convince you that this project is
for real and is going to completion, I don't know what will. If you are
intimidated
by "OS level programming", I would encourage you to do something easier.
Some suggestions (but not limits):
- Apps - OBOS has the same issue with not enough apps that BeOS did.
- Screen Savers - you can never have enough. :-)
- Add-Ons - many of the BeOS kits used add-ons for extension. Write a
translator for another type of graphics or sound format. Write a codec for
Media Kit.
- Contribute to GlassElevator discussions - there are still hundreds of good
ideas for R2 out there, I know it.
- Contribute to the newsletter - there are lots of articles people could write.
How about intro to some API? Here is a tutorial on some programming topic.
Whatever.
- Art - CDT is looking (always) for *serious* artists, designers and musicians.
- Testing - we (finally) have a test team lead and so on
- Contribute time/effort/money to the community - BU and BeBits need you.
Everyone has talents that they can put to use. If you believe in BeOS/OBOS,
please help out. There are some people (many listed below) who have invested
hundreds of hours and many $$$ into OBOS (bet you didn't know that Marcus
registered the domain name, did you? Out of his own pocket!). Would you come
along side of them and take up some of the burden, too?
