[openbeos] Re: The importance of good communications

It might feel like claims, but they are a lived experience for people
in the margins like me.

Which means what, exactly?

I have seen several attempts over the past
year(s?) of people trying to get involved. Every time they are send
away with the message that 'networking' needs work. They go to a list,
ask the question again and eventually bail out. Is it impossible to
get involved? No, I'm reasonably informed, follow multiple lists and
keep an eye on the svn repository, and I do know what needs to be
done. But if I consider the number of sources I have to check upon
daily to get my updates, I sometimes wonder whether we're doing it all
right.

All of the lists I have sat in on have been more than welcoming to developers who want to come on board. The recent discussions on the network list have been extremely open and thorough.

Knowing many of the core developers personally it doesn't seem at all strange to me that we have the structure we currently have. It surprises me that you have never made the short trip to BeGeistert to get meet them. They're all nice guys and they don't bite.

Any process that involves more work for developers like documentation is not going to go very far as anyone with software development experience will testify. That doesn't mean communication can't be improved but someone else should with the time and energy and skills needs to come forward and take it on. Waldemar's putting a lot of effort into the new website which should improve things but coders of all kinds are still required to write tutorials, document APIs., write tests, etc.
