A knowledge base might be a good use for our wiki. I just don't know whether enough people will maintain it in case we use some other tool for our documentation.

I think once it is clearly communicated that the wiki is an appropriate
place for certain types of community involvement, the community will use
it. Right now, I suspect the uncertainty of the wiki's future is preventing
much contribution to the wiki at all (I know it has deterred me somewhat).

Who will remove spam?

I doubt this will be a problem - a couple of active "watchers" can resolve this pretty easily, as we have demonstrated in the past. The wiki spam problem is much less now than it was a couples months ago.

However, I would much rather use the "Monobook" skin with the wiki if it is
intended for community-contribution. It was a lot friendlier for actual
contributions while still looking halfway decent. I find the new theme to
be mostly just "pretty" and difficult to navigate for those who really want
to contribute. I really yearn for the "Recent Changes" link to work from
the main wiki page again even - as that is my first stop usually.
