I just had to pay nearly 300 euros to get a
port-replicator-on-steroids for my 'legacy free' laptop. So damn
legacy free that it hasn't even got a CD drive. The 'replicator' is
the size of the machine again and adds a floppy, dvd, and all the
ports that are missing ...

Didn't Dano already have support for usb serial adapters for serial
debugging? That would be extremely useful to clone. But the whole need
for usb-serial adapters proves that dropping serial was a terribly bad
idea.
