[openbeos] Re: ShowImage "Mirror" Operations

Images in menus is a R2 thing ;-) Oops! Flipping the image is also post R1, perhaps this feature should be disabled :-)
Seriously, I have implemented this feature and as long as it is not removed, I have no objections if the menu items are renamed to something that is easier to understand. "Flip Left to Right" and "Flip Top to Bottom" sounds good to me.

Then, let's use that. I also have a few issues with the amount of features hidden in the menus:

"Full Screen" vs "Slide Show" + "Slide Show Delay"
This is how I'd prefer it:
In full screen mode when I move the mouse to the top, a little bar appears with functions "Play/Pause", "Next", "Previous". There is a hard-coded delay and the alternative is to use the arrow keys to switch between images.

"Show Caption In Full Screen Mode"
What about fading the caption in whenever a new image is shown and fading it out after maybe two seconds, or alternatively only show the caption in the top bar?

"Shrink To Window" vs "Zoom To Window"
Can't we replace this with one single menu item that does both? If only one function should stay then I'd say that "Zoom To Window" is not very important.

"Scale Bilinear"
Maybe this should be always enabled? It significantly increases readability and image quality on all images I tested. BTW, on my system "Scale Bilinear" does not update the image after the window has been resized with both "Shrink" and "Zoom" functions enabled. I'll file a bug report if there is not already one, but first I'll test it with the most recent build...

"Dither Image"
Hmm, I don't really know if that is needed. I'd rather have basic filters that everyone needs (e.g.: "Sharpness" and "Contrast" for image or selection). Also, I could not see any difference between "Dither" and "Scale Bilinear" with the images I tested. Maybe I need very low-quality images for "Dither" to make a difference?

Another possible bug: the "Zoom In" function does not move images that are smaller than the current window. I.e.: the top-left corner stays somewhere near the center and the image increases in size to the right and bottom sides.

The "Browse" menu could be renamed to "Page" and the "Next/Previous File" functions could be moved to the "File->Open->" menu. When no additional pages are available (in almost all cases) the "Page" menu should be hidden.

When you modify the image and then close the window you get the message
"The document ... has been changed. Do you want to close the document?"
[Cancel] [Close]
It's not obvious whether "Close" saves those changes.
I suggest changing the message to the same as StyledEdit:
'Save changes to the image "..."?'
[Cancel] [Don't Save] [Save]

(More work for volunteers to get started... ;)

Bye,
Waldemar
