I don't think we will put it in our repository. There's no reason to do that;
it would just add the additional work of keeping it in sync.

Ah, ok. There was talk on this list about including it in the repository
as recently as April 2007, so I thought it was something that was
already decided on. Not to start an argument for including it, but (you
saw it coming! :-) ) it doesn't necessarily have to be updated on a
regular basis, and it provides a common library for multiple developers'
use instead of making the developers track down a copy to include with
their apps or passing that task on to their users. Most Linux distros
and OpenBSD (sister project of OpenSSL) do pretty much the same thing;
in fact, my installation of OpenBSD 4.1 has OpenSSL 0.9.7j instead of
0.9.8e which came out a few months earlier...
Just my nearly worthless two cents... :-)
