Hi Leon,
Are there any plans to implement the NewOS BeOS style kernel on its own?
Which could then be used as a drop in replacement for Linux or other
kernels available for the GNU system?
Those are 2 diferent kernels that can not drop in replace each other (why
should they?)
If NewOS/BeOS kernel is self contained and POSIX complaint I see no
reason not to try it with GNU. After all, other kernels work well with
GNU (Linux, Hurd and NetBSD spring to mind). If NewOS/BeOS kernel has a
modern design, is efficient and complete I expect it could be slotted
into a GNU system. If it is better than the competition it could become
a popular alternative too.
I noticed there was no plan for multi-user for OpenBeOS R1. I think
this may cause problems adding later. Linux kernel 1.0 with GNU was a
complete OS, multi-user with windowing system.
What makes you think there is no plans for multi-user?
BeOS has foundations to become a multi-user system!
Everyone wants OBOS to be MU, but we are creating a working system first.
If you are interested in future plans, join the glasselevatopr list ( there
is a link somewhere on the website).
On the website it stated there would be no MU for R1. Do you mean there
is a target of MU for R1?
Kind regards
JG
