I feel sad... I feel very sad that you continue to make x86-32 version in times when every desktop CPU out there is x86-64. ... Almost crying ... Would be much better if x86-32 version was discontinued and work started on x86-64 version only (preferably with no way to run x86-32 apps so that the move is faster). Haiku is good OS, but does it really make sense to make OS for x86-32? I see no point in releasing Alpha 3. I see no point in releasing any Haiku version until there is x86-64 version available. In the meantime, one can download daily build from haiku-files.

Just my opinion, don't kill me

Having an opinion is fine but spouting as you have done "there is no point..." without particular reason for the change you are requesting is ignorant.

Still alive? Thought so.

The whole point of x86_64 was to create 64-bit hardware than ran 32-bit x86 code with negligible performance penalty and this is why it was more successful than "pure" 64-bit architecture like Itanium or the wonderful DEC-Alpha. There are very few applications on the desktop that would benefit from > 4GB of memory - video editing is the obvious candidate and the poster child for Apple's work - but it's fine to have 64-bit applications running on top of a 32-bit system (as is the default for Mac OS) - the important thing is not to make a hash of where put the libraries (Windows and Linux got it wrong IMHO) so that you don't get conflicts.

But the whole x86_64 debate is bit of a side-show: the batmobile in the fast lane is ARM even in its lowly 32-bit variety because it provides a compelling argument for vendors: insanely low power requirements and, apart from Microsoft and Apple, little or no legacy. nVidia has announced public availability for the summer of a four-core Tegra which should outperform an Intel Core 2 Duo. It would be wonderful to see Haiku on such hardware but there simply aren't the resources for it at the moment.
