Many embedded boards use older chips because they take more time to 
design, and must use less power...

Though they sometimes tend to use less common hardware, so we risk 
missing drivers.

Considering your usage pattern, you might want to look at Point-of-sale 
terminals also:

And a 1GHz cpu so BeOS shouldn't go time traveling mode.
