I'd certainly like to see more FC-style events in the future, and I

I don't recall any such distinction in the first place: Faltercon was
setup and run by people in "the project"; Urias, Bryan, et al. I believe
this is known as subsidiarity. The only issue that arose was decision by
the admin team not to allow an official CD at the gathering. Having
organised lots of BeOS & Haiku related events both official (BeGeistert)
and inofficial (BeBecues) I don't see any need for support from Haiku,
Inc. as such events are themselves usually in support.
I think it is quite common for the foundation/non-profit supporting any
given project to support community initiatives leading to the project's
presence at open source events (like FC did) by providing material such
as hand out CDs, T-shirts for the staff, leaflets, banners/signs, etc..
That's the sort of support that would be nice to have.
A small "trade show box" with the above items and a maybe even a small
(ITX-form factor?) demo computer with Haiku pre-installed that can be
shipped to the trusted members who organize their own events or the
Haiku presence at local open source events would be a good thing to
consider for the future.
A little give-and-take goes a long way.
Cheers,
Koki
