2.5 (not rc3 or any other). ok. i did it only to try to narrow the problem. didn't know this fact.

do you think there could be something wrong with the 2.5 version on ubuntu ? (just wondering, but on some other packages it happened in the past).

Yep, we fixed one or two bugs in the version in our repository that are not fixed in the jam available from Perforce (probably the one bundle with Linux distros). So, I'd recommend to use the one from our repository.
