The only thing that I can confirm is that you should only use BFS as 
the hosting FS, and probably also as the image FS - read-only should 
also work with other things, though.

I often have mounted images (that I intend to burn to CD one day), and 
I haven't any problems with them whatsoever (when I stick to the above 
rules :)).
