I wholeheartedly agree about this living in Sun's tree, once it's
ready for that.

There are a number of problems. The first is that, according to Bryan
(but filtered through my memory from this morning), what Sun has open

complete that, but, for now, that which is actually under the GPL can
not be built. The classes are not GPLed yet, as far as I know.
Secondly, 1.4.* was not GPL'ed. 1.6 was. Unless YellowTab was
working on
1.6, I can't see where a US foundation could/should host this without
explicit permission from Sun.
Thirdly, from what the folks involved have told me, there was a great
deal of divergent work done. That is to say that YT doesn't have the
latest source from BU and BU may not have the latest work from YT. So
there is a lot of merging that should go on, once the other issues can
get resolved.
Finally, there is the question of whether or not we should import
this.
I am really not sure that we want to have Java in our source
control. Or
python. Or rexx. Or Vision. Or mozilla. Or a dozen other apps. The
right
place for this code is in Sun's tree. Once it is complete and ready to
be shipped, IMHO.

Actually, Bryan said he would donate code too... Maybe that from
Bernd and
Bryan could be combined?

Now that sounds very nice. And now that Java is open, having the
port
done in some public repository would be possible, too.
Bye,
Axel.
