It would be nice if it could also cater to compiling packages from
source somehow, in analogy to the FreeBSD or Debian ways of doing
things. After all, this is an open-source project.

Of course, integrating packages compiled from source with a similar
mechanism is not much of a big problem; however, it would be rather
convenient to have the necessary mechanism for make/jam integration
already in the package manager and installation toolkit.
