I think this is an interesting idea, but the color doesn't seem as
vibrant as the other icons, and I don't completely see the relation to
app_server. Though this has gotten me thinking though about origami,
and various icons that could be made based on origami. Though again I
don't know if those are right for the app_server, but they could
certainly make interesting icons for other things.

My basic thought was that the app_server icon should either play off
something artistic (palette, easel, artwork) or somehow play off the 3
cube application icon. I see you are sort of doing the latter with the
paper cube.

I had the same problem with this icon: most touchpads are in laptops
which cannot really be represented as an object, but I don't think the
solid background is a good idea. I decided just to make the icon into
a stand-alone touchpad. Here is my current work-in-progress icon (I'm
still not sure about the color, the shadow is off, and I need to add a
cord like the mouse icon):
