Not knowing exactly what the "in the past" refers to, I'll assume this
is somewhat related to discussion here on the mailing list that I also
participated in regarding the distribution of VMWare images on CDs.
I experimented with these guidelines at that time myself.
I will point out that it was not very difficult to edit the
AboutSystem app (removing logos/names - substituting a new one, and
fixing the website link, etc.) - and also removing the entire boot
screen image (at the time, I left it completely black as there was no
easy way to replace it).
I think I ended up adding an alert in the bootscript also as requested.
I believe I also removed the desktop background image as well -
although that wasn't necessarily required as the "artwork" was allowed
to be used.
I did not need alter any other applications or copyrights IIRC, as
there was no need. It really boils down to only a few simple requests.
Now, even with all of that - it was clear that several Haiku
contributors were still uncomfortable with *anyone* distributing a
pre-alpha release of Haiku at that time in any form on a physical CD -
which to me was completely asinine as it had really nothing to do with
the guidelines.
Long story short - even if you follow the guidelines to the letter
(which IMO you haven't even done yet), you're still going to meet some
dissent. So you'll need to weigh what's more important to you - what
you want, or what the majority of the community and haiku developers
want.
