A little advice: the non-commercial bit in the CC license might not be the
right thing to do. The past weeks, I have been looking for a set of icons
which I could use to replace some of the Windows 98-ish icons atop some of
the OSNews databse categories. In the end, the choice was between the Tango
project, and KDE's Oxygen.
However, Oxygen icons have the 'nc' clause, and Tango does not. And since
OSNews is, in fact, a commercial endeavour (despite nobodoy getting paid), I
was forced to choose the Tango icons. And they do look pretty on OSNews, I
must say ;).
What I'm trying to say is: use the 'nc' clause wisely. I'm sure you won't
make a big deal out of for example OSNews using the flyers in an article,
but strictly speaking, we are not allowed to because of the 'nc' clause.
I am simply not in a position to grant permission to use the artwork for
commercial purposes, as I do not hold the rights to the trademarked
material.
Plus commercial use would most likely mean that the work is not anymore
in the realm of fair use, adding a degree of legal complexity that I am
really not interested in dealing with.
So, sorry Thom, but the NC is there to stay. :)
Cheers,
Koki
