You only have like 50 msecs to actually press the space bar to enter
the boot menu; after that, it's too late already. Until that works
differently (if possible, as that's the point where the kernel and the
boot modules are loaded), there is little point in adding that text,
though :-)

I must admit I have noticed that. It's a pain when you have to go in
there every time to turn off IDE DMA...
