Except that this is the wrong counter-example to give. Actually, on the subject of embedded platforms, Apple is a poster child for stability, given that they've been dead set on ARM processors since the Newton (while, say, Microsoft experimented with MIPS, SH and ARM before settling with producing Windows Mobile versions only for the latter in the end). And despite half the tech punditry industry believing Apple would go Intel/Atom for the iPhone 3G, Apple kept using ARMs, and subsequently bought PA Semi and will use their IP to develop custom ARM SoCs for the foreseeable future.
