yes my point is that one of the biggest standards that we might have
in common with freedesktop was the mime db. If we make a big deal
about working with freedesktop and then later on decide that mime is
insufficient and throw it all out, we'd look a little silly.
Be originally used the original mac typing scheme and then Chris
Herborth convinced them that mime was superior. So it would be
interesting if Haiku were to move from mime to the new mac scheme one
day

Yes they use multiple keywords, a bit like some website now use (tags).
It seems quite powerful but I'm not sure it's all settled down yet.
Maybe that's something for R2.
In the mean time we could still do stuff with mimes.
