What I suggest is that you write a bunch of test programs on R5 and see
what happens in these cases. That is what I did to find out how to
various classes from the Midi2 kit work, since they were not documented
at all. With a little experimentation (and educated guessing) you can
figure out a whole lot about the implementation of these classes. Even
when the BeBook seems to give a very complete description of a class,
I'd still urge you to write these test programs to make sure the BeBook
is really correct (sometimes it isn't).
