I got involved very late, I didn't read up on official goals yet, but
my personal goal is not to take over the world, but to build something
that *I* will enjoy using. Working together with other BeOS Enthusiasts
ensures that there is a more or less common idea of "enjoyable". It is
never a bad idea to build something just the way that you like it best,
most likely you're satisfying a need that you share with more people
(though unlikely all people).

My mom has huge problems using Windows XP, I keep having to fix her
computer every three weeks or so. What keeps me from installing BeOS
for her? Do I think it would be too hard for her to use? In fact, I
think Windows is so inconsistent on various details, that all the "high
level usability" becomes meaningless. BeOS is far more predictable for
me. The only problem is that it is not localized, and that certain apps
are missing. That's about it.
