Hi,
I kinda like that taskbased approach for several
reasons.
An example says more than words.
Example: I need an image with a pinguin and one with a
axe on it to make a nice PDF brochure that'll need to
send to some guy.
1)TASK CENTRIC:
I do a query on my system for pinguin and axe and mark
the external search checkbox also.
The systems looks for an image of a pinguin on my
system and externaly - on the web and on various
filesharing networks and returns the results to me in
a nice filemanager window.
I select an image from let's say the EDK network that
has status downloaded.
Apply cropping, colorbalance manipulationg, adding
text etc... Do the same thing with the second
image, choose make document from images, edit the
document and select print to pdf file, zip it, mail it
to drag it on the people file and done.
And then you see you forgot to axe the pinguin, oops
just open up the document within the zip, apply you
image manipulation turn it into pdf and mail it like
before.
Hell you could even write a macro/script automating
all the stuff.
2)APP CENTRIC:
On any other OS, that means fire up browser look on
the web for images, next fire up filesharing apps to
do the same thing and next fire up your desktop search
to do the same thing.
Then select your image, copy it over to wherever you
need it to be, close all the bloody apps.
Open up Photoshop, do the image manipulations export
the images, close Photoshop,
Open up a dtp app, import the images, add text save as
PDF, close the DTP app.
Open up the mailclient, look for your contact, select
your contact.
Fire up the zip app, zip it, close the zip app,
attach the document and mail it.
And then you see you forgot to axe the pinguin, the
whole proces starts all over...
First you need a lot of apps, secondly takes a hell of
a lot more time and system resources and cost a lot of
money, timewise and softwarewise.
Now what is easier to explain to a computer novice,
approach 1 or 2?
