I agree. There's nothing wrong with requiring new users to learn about the
system before they start using it (or better: while they are starting to use
it).

Dumbing down a system for clueless newbies only results in a system that no
one will use (e.g. Microsoft Bob).

You have to get a driver's license before you are allowed to drive a car. I
don't know if this exists in other countries, but here (in Holland) people
can get a computer driver's license. It's not mandatory yet, but no doubt
this will happen some day (at least in some circles).

The problem is that such a driver's license doesn't really cover everything
you need to know in order to drive Windows without crashing. :-)
