This does happen. beunited.org's legal bill was 10K for the MS filing,
but we only had to raise $2500, as 3 other parties NOT from within our
community (under anomity) committed to matching whatever we could raise
up to the $2500 mark (otherwise we'd have said "no" - 10K is an awful
lot of cash for an org with next to nothing in assets). So it worked
out for us well - and proved that those types are about. They won't
give it for free, but they'll give it to those that deserve it (meaning
can raise their own cash too).
