Something like >MDR won't affect the whole OBOS project. What about some company that >offers networking to us, and then takes it away? How about Travis That's why I am being careful about what we accept. The license under which things are offered is read in full and considered before I/we agree to it. Things like FreeType, for example. Or the Be Sample License. I looked at all of those and thought hard about them. Not that I am a lawyer, but I made a pretty decent attempt to understand them and think about the ramifications. Remember, as BGA said, that once something is offered under a particular license, those terms can not be lifted on that original code. >decides that he wants to implement something in NewOS kernel that makes >it almost impossible to use for OBOS. What about a browser that is >offered to us, and then becomes a commercial product. That would be when we fork. :-) >All I am saying is perhaps there should be tight rules as to what >allowing a product to be shipped with OBOS. What makes you think that there are not? :-) >I didn't mean to annoy anyone here, but its just an issue I have with >the projects fragmentation. While I am happy now, I would be totally >happy if it were all under one roof, and OpenBeOS code and software >belonged to OpenBeOS. OTOH, I think that we would be foolish to pass up certain things that are such a huge advantage to us. Another example of this - the Datatypes library, which Jon wrote before he started at Be. That has been offered up for inclusion. Pretty cool stuff. And totally free, license wise. How can we ask for better than that?
