[openbeos] Re: BugZilla => Trac

I would suggest keeping Bugzilla for now, until all mentioned problems are resolved, and then really do a switch, ie. making Bugzilla unavailable.

I second that, and it still looks like there are issues, not being able to login being a critical one. :-)

Also, what happens with notifications (of existing bugs)? Will we still get notifications for bugs we posted on Bugzilla and that were migrated to Trac?

The issues with UTF8 that you mentioned are specific to the server, chances are that they will disappear when you move to the production server (since bugzilla in haiku-os.org does not have them).

I would suggest that you setup Trac in the same environment in which it will be eventually be used (the haiku-os.org server), have people test it for you for 1-2 weeks to make sure that everything works as expected and so that you can identify any issues, and once you are confident that it works, then (and only then) make an announcement with all the details of the migrations (when it will happen, what will happen to the bugzilla user accounts, perhaps a link to documentation on how to use Trac, etc.); give it a week or so for the word to spread, and finally make the switch.

Transitions always cause (unwanted) disruptions; you can minimize the impact so that the migration is as painless as possible to those who report bugs. All you need is a little planning, assistance and coordination.

PS: Marcom will prepare the announcement for you; just give us the outline, and we will put it together.
