[openbeos] Re: Bounties

Ho!

I really like Jonas' idea of awards! And IMO it'd be fitting if that kind of thing would be internal to Haiku Inc.

Maybe a way to help assess potential award worthy material is by nominating commits by forwarding the svn-commit-message (only header with the list of modified files and the log, mind you!) to an especially created email account (like nomination@xxxxxxxxxxxx). Perhaps with a short explanation why you think it's just so great. These nominations shouldn't be considered a poll, but more as a little inspiration for the judges.

Bounties are still a good idea, either within Haiku Inc. or by 3rd parties like Karl. Especially for drivers and other things that are particularly vital for individuals that may not be a priority for currently involved devs. Ryan (IIRC) mentioned that before.

One source for potential bounties are the not-assigned tasks for the Google Summer of Code ( http://haiku-os.org/community/gsoc2007/ideas ). A list I may add, that is well worth maintaining and extending.

I'm looking forward to the implementation of those awards as I'm keen on financially supporting Haiku. The one thing that has been holding me back from regular donations is that I couldn't see directly what's achieved with the money.
OK, enough rambling. :)
