Is this the device that was connected by a data cable but no power? Doing that and powering up can and will cause bit splatter if it's an IDE hard drive. You might try wiping the drive and starting fresh...
No, this is just the USB stick. I may have to wrong block size or I may still no be writing to the whole device, there is nothing where the MBR should be.
