It is not that anyone had not noticed it, but what can be said? BeOS Aires
has been down for almost a year (I speak Spanish, so this was painful for
me), many projects are being posposed, abandoned, etc. What would the
commentary be? How could it be written without being insensitive? Without
being emotional? I speak for me when i tell it was better to hold my peace,
and remember the faithful departed with joy.
Windows doesn't have anything to do with Haiku, except maybe in the
things it does right and wrong.
This is the latter: Not having a pdf reader is a pain.
Well... In Win 95 days, i did not need a pdf reader. In fact, the very first
pdf file i ever had was from Be. I did not know what it was, but in BeBits i
could download a good application named BePDF which handled the portable
document format in a good way.
Nowadays... eBooks on a handheld are PDF most of the time. I even make my
estimates PDF before i send them. My point is that back then it was not
important to have a pdf reader, a zip decompressor, or a .doc reader... it
came in floppies!. Remember what happened with the Java machine in XP?
SP1a... then it came XPS, the M$ PDF in Office 12.
So the real question is whether or not BePDF is the right application
for pdf files.
I feel good using it, but it would be awesome to have better support for 1.6
(2005) features in pdf.
It is comfortable that, for example, BeO5 MAX has it included, but for daily
use, MAX users sooner or later need to go to BeBits. I cannot give a good
opinion in that topic.
Thank you for your patience when reading this. Be well.
