Yes, I agree fully.  However, how would you classify downloadable Quake 
mods?  They're not settings, but they're not really data.

I propose the following, $COMMON/data/{app}, because of the simple 
reason that other users might want to use it, and if you "upgrade" (rm 
-rf /boot/apps/{app}; unzip -d /boot/apps {app}.zip) the application, 
said data won't disappear.

Actually, I didn't know about that.  How are things like that agreed
