Actually, I think it should have been a single commit; every checkin
should be as complete as possible, so that every single repository
revision is valid and can be used (in theory, at least :)).
I think the preferred way to deal with these huge commits is to
temporarily disable svn's commit hooks. That way the commit history is
kept clean, and you could even write a notice about that commit on the
list (either the commit list or this one, commit list preferred).
